Pernod encourages both the general public and its own staff to adopt a responsible approach to drinking, encouraging conviviality and discouraging alcohol abuse and inappropriate drinking. Pernod cares about the proper use of its products and supports the French public health policy to prevent hazardous drinking and condemn excessive use, especially by young adults.

ALCOHOL AND DRIVING: THE BREATHALYSER REFLEX
All promotional and tasting operations organised by Pernod are accompanied by advice on moderation, following the golden rule: “celui qui conduit, c'est celui qui ne boit pas” (“the one who drives is the one who doesn't drink”). In 2006, 24,500 breathalyser tests were distributed by salespeople at the exits from discotheques and other entertainment areas in France. Since July 2006, electronic breathalyser terminals developed by the “Entreprise & Prévention” association and Dräger have been installed in Pernod clubs and recommended to customers by the Pernod sales force.

PREGNANT WOMEN: A SYMBOL FOR THE WHOLE OF THE EUROPEAN UNION
By setting itself standards of communication that are higher than those demanded by the regulations in force, Pernod is adopting a sustainable policy of responsible drinking. For instance, a new measure was implemented in 2007, aimed at pregnant women throughout the European Union: a warning symbol is now displayed on the bottle labels of all wines and spirits marketed by Pernod.

YOUNG ADULTS: PREVENTION AND AWARENESS
Since 1999, the Entreprise & Prévention association, partner of Securité Routière, the French Road Safety agency, has been present in nightclubs to promote the principle of the designated driver to young people. For the association, the only way to act effectively is to work in the field implementing awareness and prevention programmes. Pernod has actively associated itself with this approach, contributing to these actions by the use of breathalyser tests and measures to get people home (following special events evenings) during multi-brand activities in nightclubs and discotheques.
